Twitter is awesome. I love twitter. You all know this already. Today, I discovered that one of my "twitter friends" had made this:

Just thought I'd share.

A Couple Of Quick Links 14th Jan, 2009 @ 11:07

First of all, Alan David Doane has a really good, long piece about the best graphic novels coming up in 2009. I defy anyone who reads comics to read it and not come away with several things they absolutely HAVE to own.

Oh, and I contributed, by the way. Go, read.

The other link? Well, you all know I think Bunny is brilliant every day. But today's especially tickled me...

Two Things 13th Oct, 2008 @ 05:06

1: Bloody hell, I'm in today's bunny. And in some pretty good company, too.

(For those who don't know, there's been a meme going around webcomics lately where you have to include cameos by as many other webcartoonists as you can- believe it or not, I'm actually toying with taking part when WindBird comes back next week- and Lem, bless him, saw fit to include me of all people. Surprised the shit out of me)

2: Go and read this absolutely astoundingly brilliant minicomic about the first 44 presidents of the USA.

Must Read Comics 22nd Aug, 2008 @ 19:27

ADD (AKA

[info]alandaviddoane ) posted his top 100 must-read graphic novels yesterday, and I thought it'd be fun to do that meme thing where you take the list and bold the ones you've read and so forth.

So I did.

Here's the list. Bold means I've read it, bold italic means I've read some of it but not all (so if it's a collection, I'll have read some of the original material, or if it's a series of trades I'll have read some of the volumes etc), just italic means I've been meaning to get around to reading it.

So obviously, once I'd done that, I had to do my own. I decided to be little less rigid than Alan (fnarr), so mine is just comics of all descriptions rather than graphic novels and collections. Because comics has been a serial medium for most of the last hundred years, it stands to reason that some of the best work won't be available in graphic novel format. Also, where Alan tried to limit the number of appearances by any one creator, I found I just couldn't bring myself to do that, because, well, Alan Moore. I also decided to include webcomics, because I read a lot of webcomics.

This list is in no particular order- you'll notice that things are kind of grouped together in categories a bit, because I just typed them in as I thought of them.

And finally, Alan's got a good ten years extra reading time on me, so I only managed fifty...

What's yours?

Sort Of Back ...Well, Back-ish 15th Aug, 2008 @ 01:24
So, I'm back at work, and between jobs I'm catching up with everything I've missed on the internet this week while I've been doing the photoshop drudgery required to get Damnation ready to go to the printers...

It's been an eventful week, by the looks of things. Lem has really excelled himself over at Bunny, for starters- that'd make fucking wicked mini-comic, mate. I'd buy one. Seriously, everybody, Bunny is awesome all the time anyway, but this week is special.

When Fangirls Attack is back, which is a double edged sword- on the one hand, WOOHOO! because it's a really good thing. It's no coincidence that there hasn't been any FEMUHNIST CONTRUHVUSSY in the mainstream comics geekosphere while it's been away, if you ask me. WFA serves the extremely important purpose of providing a centre for the, well, let's call it what it is, movement to revolve around. Interested in feminism, and how it applies to comics, and whats going on in comics right now that's worth making a noise about? Who's worth starting an argument with (because believe it or not, arguments aren't always pointless), and who's worth supporting? Want to hear other people's thoughts on the subject, and maybe have your own views and opinions challenged? Well, that's your one stop shop, right there.

(Hell, I wouldn't be reading BPRD if it wasn't for WFA. No, really. BPRD is the first (only!) comic I've ever bought on the basis of it's editorial team, which includes Rachel Edidin, who's blog I discovered through WFA)

On the other hand- well, being a feminist more often than not involves getting really bloody angry about the bigotry, hypocrisy, and just plain stupidity of various people- often people I'd like to expect better of. And that can be a bit depressing...

There's lots of other stuff I'd like to comment on... one person who's likely to be reading this (who has a friends only blog, so I don't know if it'd be right to name them) did at least two things this week that they should be very proud of.

Anyway, better be off again, work is calling...

ego rub 1st Aug, 2008 @ 00:17
I'm hoping to bore you all half to tears with a longer blog post later, but for now I just wanted to share something with you- last week, I emailed Alan David Doane to ask him if he could give me a critique of Damnation, which he very kindly did, giving me a lot of food for thought, and pointing out various areas I need to work on improving in the art and storytelling (the most hearening thing about this being that his concerns pretty much perfectly mirror my own, so I guess I have a clearer perception of my own work than I feared).

However, part way through, he dropped in the probably the nicest comment anybody's ever made about my work:

"The story itself has a strong Warren Ellis feel, as if he were
collaborating with Paul Grist, or a drunken Steve Ditko."

That, right there? That's going on the back of the book.

The Lily Foundation 14th Apr, 2008 @ 13:41
So, the London Marathon was yesterday. I don't normally pay much attention to that kind of thing, but this year was unusual: the husband of a friend of Amanda's ran to raise money for a charity that they set up. He ran with his brother in law, Johnathan Pierce, who I understand is quite well known to sports fans in the UK (although, not being in the slightest bit interested in sport, this was the first I'd heard of him).

The charity is The Lily Foundation. I strongly urge you to click that link and take a look around the website, and donate some money if you can- and if you can't, then please help get the word out. If you are considering doing any kind of charitable/sponsored event, then please consider making the lily Foundation your good cause.

Thank you.
